The Dodo abides…

A piece for the Irish Sketch Society’s “Birds” week. Base mesh in 3DSMax, sculpted/textured in Mudbox, back to Max for rendering and post in Photoshop.

  1. Sweet, great job Pete….the sepia image is me fave….

  2. I don’t know whether to hate you or fall down on my knees to you!! Another beautifully realised concept work. Are you happy in your job or might you be interested in a feature film in Dublin, if it happens?

    • Ha Rory you crack me up! The hair was actually pretty much a preset out of the box (the Hair & Fur modifier in 3DSMax), I just combed and clumped the ends a bit to let it flow along the head and neck a bit better. I also painted a map to control length and hair clump density. The raw render was actually pretty saturated where the hairs were, I painted a lot in Photoshop to try to marry them to the actual model.

  3. How did you do the feathers/hair – what software and what settings? Or is it polygons?
